To support the effective, efficient, and secure use of Information Technology by Computer Sciences Students, Faculty, and Staff in Teaching, Learning, Research, and Public Service Transient Network Issues, 2020-02-03 UPDATE: 2020-02-05 13:00: An issue with the firewall has been identified and fixed. This is now resolved. We are experiencing transient, intermittent network issues. We have a case open with DoIT and will provide additional updates as soon as we know more. -CSL Posted Mon, 02/03/2020 - 3:32pm Network Outage 7/29/2019 The Computer Science network experienced a brief outage this afternoon. Posted Mon, 07/29/2019 - 3:12pm Computer Sciences Network Outage Thursday, December 27 4-8 PM Computer Sciences Network Outage Thursday, December 27 4-8 PM Computer Sciences networks will experience intermittent short network outages between 4PM and 8PM on Thursday, December 27. Please plan ahead so that your work is not disrupted. This outage is necessary to move Computer Sciences networks to the new campus Palo Alto firewalls, which will provide enhanced security with higher capacity and reduced firewall-related latency. This outage was scheduled in coordination with the DoIT Network Services group to minimize impact on CS students, faculty and staff. Posted Mon, 12/10/2018 - 4:51pm CS Network Issues, Friday 11/16 (and Thursday 11/15) [This was resolved on Friday 11/16] The CS network has been suffering from a distributed denial of service attack (DDOS). We are working with campus networking to mitigate the effect and restore service. In addition to slow network connections, some services are not functioning correctly. We are working on restoring service on a case-by-case basis Posted Fri, 11/16/2018 - 10:10am IMAP migration to Office 365 The Computer Sciences IMAP server will be decommissioned in late 2018. All IMAP users will need to be migrated to Office 365 before November 1, 2018 DoIT will be removing their IMAP migration mechanisms on November 1. This is the final phase of transitioning department IMAP users to the campus Office 365 service. All remaining Comp Sci IMAP users have been contacted about this transition and asked to reactivate or create NetID credentials. Campus NetID credentials will be necessary to access new Office 365 accounts. Users without valid NetID credentials will no longer be able to access or modify their Computer Sciences email. Users with deactivated NetID accounts: Activate your NetID following instructions provided at https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=1140 When asked for a campus ID number, in most cases this can be obtained by starting an order for a campus transcript outlined at https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=78992 If that procedure does not work, contact the DoIT Help Desk at 608-264-HELP; they are open Mon-Fri 7AM to 6PM. Users without NetIDs: Invites to the NetID system have been sent to all affected users; users must respond to those invitations to initialize their NetID. Contact o365@cs.wisc.edu to have this invite resent. Email service activation All new NetID and reactivated NetID users must activate services following instructions at https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=4479 To test this, login at the WiscMail portal and verify you can access your WiscMail account. If you can see an email account on this page, your email services have been activated and no longer need to take action.
